The Northern Cooperative Leadership Workshop is designed specifically for association chairpersons, vice-chairpersons, and committee members serving in NASFAM's northern district associations. The workshop provides a structured opportunity for elected leaders to strengthen their governance skills, share experiences across associations, and develop practical plans for addressing their most pressing organisational challenges.

Session one on the first day focuses on cooperative governance fundamentals — the responsibilities of elected positions, how to run effective and inclusive meetings, managing member expectations, and maintaining transparent financial oversight. Participants complete a self-assessment tool at the start of the session and revisit it at the end to identify specific areas for personal development as leaders.

Conflict resolution occupies the afternoon of day one, drawing on real scenarios from NASFAM associations to practise principled negotiation, mediation skills, and grievance handling procedures. Many associations identify unresolved internal conflicts as a barrier to collective action, and this session provides practical tools for de-escalation and constructive resolution.

Day two is dedicated to strategic planning for associations, with facilitated sessions helping each association team identify their top three priorities for the coming season, the resources and support they need, and the milestones they will use to track progress. Teams leave with a one-page association action plan reviewed by NASFAM staff and peer associations.
