The Climate-Smart Farming Field Day provides an opportunity for farmer association members and partner organisations to see climate-adaptive farming practices in action at NASFAM's central region demonstration farm. Rather than classroom instruction, the field day is structured as a practical walking tour through demonstration plots illustrating different techniques, with expert commentary and time for questions at each station.
Demonstration stations cover minimum tillage plots in different soil types, intercropping combinations showing the benefits of legume integration for soil nitrogen, water harvesting micro-catchments at plot level, conservation beds for erosion control, and drought-tolerant crop variety comparison trials. Each station is staffed by a specialist who can explain the technique, show current results, and discuss how to adapt the approach to different farm conditions.
A practical session in the afternoon allows attendees to try some of the techniques themselves under supervision, including setting out minimum tillage planting lines, establishing a small conservation bed, and constructing a simple micro-catchment. Participants leave with detailed reference cards for each technique and a schedule of follow-up support available through their local NASFAM field officer.
The field day is open to all NASFAM member farmers, partner organisation staff, and government extension workers, with refreshments provided and no registration fee for NASFAM members. Transport coordination from district assembly points will be arranged for groups of ten or more from participating associations.
