This two-day practical training is designed for farmer group leaders and association members in northern district associations who want to reduce the post-harvest losses that erode income after a successful growing season. The programme covers the full post-harvest journey from field to storage, with hands-on practical sessions at each stage.

Participants begin with a field exercise assessing their current post-harvest practices and quantifying losses at each stage, providing a baseline for measuring improvement and generating personal motivation to change. Facilitated group discussions allow participants to identify the one or two changes most likely to have the largest impact in their specific context before moving to detailed instruction.

Practical sessions cover threshing, field drying, cleaning and sorting, moisture testing, and hermetic bag packing in sequence, with participants working through each step themselves using demonstration equipment. NASFAM trainers provide coaching and correct common errors in real time, building competence through doing rather than observing.

The second day focuses on quality grading for commercial sale, aflatoxin prevention and detection, and the logistics of collective storage and coordinated selling. Participants practise grading exercises against sample lots and learn to interpret moisture meter readings in the context of market requirements, building confidence in their ability to assess and communicate commodity quality to buyers.
