Farmer Resource Training — Central Region

A three-day practical training covering post-harvest management, climate-smart practices, and cooperative record-keeping for Central Region association members.

This three-day residential training programme brings together farmer group leaders and association representatives from twelve Central Region districts for intensive practical instruction across three thematic areas: post-harvest loss reduction, climate-adaptive farming practices, and cooperative financial record-keeping.

Day one focuses on post-harvest management, covering proper grain drying techniques, hermetic storage use, moisture management, and aflatoxin prevention in groundnut storage. Participants will work through hands-on practical sessions using demonstration equipment and take home a resource pack including reference cards they can use to train their own group members on return.

Day two introduces climate-smart agriculture practices suited to Central Region agro-ecological conditions, including minimum tillage, legume intercropping for soil health, and water conservation techniques. Facilitators will draw on evidence from NASFAM's ongoing climate programme to provide practical, proven recommendations rather than theoretical models.

Day three covers cooperative governance and record-keeping, with participants completing practical exercises using NASFAM's standardised template pack. The session includes a case study analysis of a well-functioning and a poorly functioning association to draw out lessons on what governance practices make the most difference to member service delivery.
