The Groundnut Value Chain Summit is a sector-wide convening focused on Malawi's most commercially significant smallholder commodity. The summit brings together groundnut farmers from NASFAM associations, domestic processors, export trading houses, financial institutions active in the value chain, and development partners supporting groundnut sector development, to review the outcomes of the 2026 production and trading season and plan the value chain's development priorities for the following year.
The first day covers season performance review, with presentations on production volumes, quality outcomes, price performance, and contract adherence across different market channels. Farmers, processors, and exporters each present their perspectives, providing a multi-stakeholder view of where the value chain is performing well and where structural improvements are needed.
Working groups on day two explore specific value chain development priorities, including expanding export certification, strengthening input supply systems for certified seed, improving post-harvest quality management, and designing financial products that support early-season input investment for farmers with confirmed offtake contracts. Working group outputs are presented in plenary and incorporated into a sector development memo shared with all participants and relevant government agencies.
The summit also serves as a networking platform for value chain actors who rarely interact directly, enabling relationship-building between farmers and buyers that can lead to new commercial arrangements. Several multi-season supply contracts have originated from summit conversations in previous years, demonstrating the commercial value of bringing actors together in a structured dialogue format.
