The Youth Farmer Innovation Challenge is NASFAM's annual celebration of agricultural innovation among its youngest members. Now in its third year, the event brings together young farmers from across all regions who have developed creative solutions to farming challenges, improved enterprise models, or demonstrated exceptional productivity outcomes using accessible technologies and approaches.
Competing participants present their innovations or enterprises to a panel of judges comprising agronomists, agri-business investors, and development partner representatives. Presentations are evaluated on impact achieved, scalability, farmer-friendliness, and commercial viability. Finalists in each category present in a plenary session open to all event attendees, providing broader exposure for their ideas.
Beyond the competition, the event functions as a youth networking and learning platform, with sessions on accessing agricultural finance, building enterprise plans, using digital tools for farming, and connecting with NASFAM's incubation programme for structured ongoing support. Past participants have described the event as transformative in terms of connecting them with peers, mentors, and opportunities they could not have accessed in their home districts.
Prizes for winning innovations include cash awards, participation in NASFAM's Youth Agripreneur Incubation Programme, and connections to investor and buyer networks facilitated by NASFAM's market linkage team. A media programme accompanies the event to share winning stories through national and social media platforms, amplifying the visibility of young agricultural innovators.
